Chin augmentation surgery is usually performed to augment an underprojected chin. Typically, this is accomplished by placement of an implant directly on the bone. A small incision is made either inside the mouth or underneath the skin of the chin. After the implant is placed, the incision is then closed with sutures. Mild swelling may occur for a few days, and patients usually are able to return to work within a week.

What can I expect during a Chin Augmentation?

A Chin Augmentation can be performed on an outpatient basis or with an overnight stay at our fully accredited surgical facility on our beautiful campus, where our highly qualified nurses will pamper you. Our nurses are certified in advanced cardiac life support, which ensures the highest level of supervision, evaluation, and care should there ever be an emergency. Our advanced anesthesia providers remain in the operating room to monitor you during your surgery.

During a chin augmentation surgery, a small incision is created under the chin or inside the mouth, between the gum and lower lip. A implant is then inserted through the incision and adjusted to the desired position in front of the jawbone. Once the optimal position is found, the incisions will be sutured closed and recovery can begin.

In a Chin Augmentation we use special tools to move skin, fat and tissue aside to make way for a small implant. The surgeon inserts the implant and molds it to the shape of your chin bone to achieve a natural look.

How long does it take to recover from a Chin Augmentation?

Patients should stick to light activity for the first few days following surgery. A special garment is generally worn during this time to keep the chin tissues in place as they heal and to reduce swelling. Swelling may further be reduced by keeping the head elevated.

Many patients are recovered enough to return to work within two or three days after surgery. Although patients may feel well enough to return to work within a few days, they may prefer to stay home until sutures are removed or dissolve on their own.
