There’s a lot of misinformation out there about breast implants. Unfortunately these half-truths (or in some cases downright lies) can scare women away from breast augmentation, making them believe the surgery just isn’t worth it. Don’t let these myths keep you from learning more about breast augmentation. As many women with implants will tell you, breast augmentation can yield highly satisfying results – just ask our patients at H/K/B Cosmetic Surgery + MedSpa.

Breast Augmentation Myth #1: All Breast Implants Look Fake

Surely you’ve seen those women with very obvious implants. It doesn’t have to be that way. With a skilled, board certified plastic surgeon and the right sized implants you can obtain a very natural look from your breast augmentation surgery. Don’t just take our word for it; we offer Vectra 3D Imaging so you can see your results before your surgery ever occurs.

Breast Augmentation Myth #2: You Can’t Breast Feed with Implants

Most women that have breast augmentation can still breast feed. Periareolar incisions (incisions around the nipple) make it more likely for complications to occur, but incisions under the breast or in the armpit don’t generally cause any trouble. If you have trouble breast feeding after breast augmentation there are organizations to help.

If you’re worried that breast feeding will lead to sagginess and ruin your implants, don’t be. One study found that breast feeding was not a major cause of breast sagging in women with implants. Changes to your body from pregnancy are a much larger cause of sagging than breast feeding.

Breast Augmentation Myth #3: You’ll Need to Replace Your Implants Every 10 Years

Breast implants do occasionally need replacement, but it isn’t on a set schedule. Generally we only recommend implant replacement if there’s a problem or if you want to change your breast size. If your implants are doing well and haven’t ruptured there is no need to replace them at 10, 15, or even 20 years.

Breast Augmentation Myth #4: Breast Implants are Only for Women that Want a Big Chest

Just like natural breasts, augmented breasts can come in every size. Many women opt for implants after having children to restore their breasts to their former glory. Whether you want to be a B cup or a DD cup, breast augmentation can be the solution.

Breast Augmentation Myth #5: Implants Can Correct Sagging Breasts

If you have sagging breasts you need a breast lift, not augmentation. Large implants in saggy breasts will just lead to large, saggy breasts. Yes, implants can fill in some of the breast volume lost due to pregnancy and breast feeding, but they aren’t the best solution for sagging breasts. If you want to remove sag and increase size consider a breast lift with your breast augmentation. Often these surgeries can be performed together.
