Will I experience loss of nipple sensation after breast implants and breast augmentation?

Changes in nipple sensation are very common after breast augmentation, but the good news is, they typically resolve. Feeling less sensation or more sensation than normal are common. Most women will return to normal nipple sensation within a few months of surgery. Very rarely, nipple sensation will not return. This doesn’t happen often and is more common with larger implants, breast reductions, or breast lifts. Some incision types are more prone to sensation loss than others. We can help you gauge your odds of sensation loss during your consultation. So, hopefully this answers the question “do you lose feeling in your nipples after breast implants?” for you.

Will I Be Able to Feel My Breast Implants Inside of My Breast?

What will your breasts feel like after breast augmentation? Many factors impact your breast augmentation results. We can give you a better idea of what to expect during your consultation. Here are a few factors that can affect how your breasts will feel after surgery.

  • Implant Size – It is easier to feel a bigger implant. If you don’t have sufficient natural breast tissue or if you’re wanting a very large implant, we may have a difficult time fully covering the implant. We’ll explain your options and recommend implant sizes that work well with your anatomy.
  • Implant Type – Silicone implants have a softer, more natural feel, even outside of the breast. Saline implants are a little more firm. We can achieve results that feel very natural by careful placement of an appropriately sized saline implant, but in some situations, silicone will offer a more natural feel.
  • Placement – Placing the implant behind the pectoral muscle can camouflage the feel of a breast implant. We’ll discuss the pros and cons of each placement option during your consultation.
  • Your Anatomy – Your natural breast tissue will cover your implant. More tissue means more coverage. The amount of breast tissue you have, or don’t have, will impact how your implants feel.
