What Does FACS Signify?

When you see the letters FACS behind a doctor’s name, this means that they are a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Fellows are board certified surgeons (or the equivalent), and are committed to taking exceptional care of their patients. Fellows commit to placing patient welfare above all other considerations, to avoid divisions of fees with other physicians, to ensure that fees are equal to the service rendered, and to refrain from performing unjustified operations. Should a Fellow violate these provisions, they are subject to disciplinary action including potential expulsion from the Fellowship.

In addition, a Fellow must demonstrate exceptional skill through a comprehensive evaluation of surgical training and ability. The standards used are national standards chosen to ensure that patients choosing an FACS doctor receive the best possible care. The letters FACS behind Dr. Kortesis’ name signify a commitment to the highest ethical standards. They also demonstrate his training, expertise, and his promise to achieve an excellent result for you, his patient.
