What Is Botox?
Age, sun and stress can all contribute to facial lines and wrinkles. These lines and creases tend to deepen over time, making us look less rested. Some of these lines can now be minimized, and in some cases erased, thanks to the help of Botox, an injectable treatment.
Botox Cosmetic is an FDA-approved prescription injection containing diluted amounts of Clostridium botulinum, specifically botulinum toxin type A. In these small amounts, it is very effective in the relaxation of specific muscles. It works by inhibiting the communication between nerve cells and muscle cells. This controlled relaxation hinders the ability to contract the specific muscles that lead to deep lines and wrinkles. Botox has been approved for use in minimizing frown lines between the brows, but can be used in other areas as well, such as in the forehead, bunny lines and crow’s feet.
Millions of Botox treatments are performed each year – 7.2 million in 2017 to be exact. This treatment has been extensively tested, both in the lab and in the field. It is a safe and effective solution for dynamic facial wrinkles.

With millions of treatments performed across the globe every year, Botox Cosmetic is one of the most trusted names in the industry for addressing fine lines and wrinkles on the forehead, around the eyes, and between the brows. What Can I Expect From a Botox Treatment?
At H/K/B Cosmetic Surgery we perform all Botox treatments in a beautiful and comfortable medical office setting. We have several certified injectors on staff. These trained medical professionals have advanced training in injectable treatments, including Botox, Dysport, and dermal fillers. Each treatment is performed under the supervision of our board-certified plastic surgeons. We perform non-surgical injectable treatments at all of our facilities.
Your Botox Consultation with H/K/B Cosmetic Surgery
Before your treatment, we will talk with you about your goals and carefully examine the treatment areas. If this treatment is a good fit for you, we’ll proceed with the procedure. If not, we will recommend other treatments that are more in line with your current aesthetic goals.
Botox is administered through a series of injections. Each injection only lasts for a few seconds and the entire treatment is usually completed in 15 minutes or less. Most of our patients tolerate the process well and do not require any anesthetic. If needed, topical anesthetic can be used, but this will extend the amount of time needed for treatment. Topical anesthetic must be applied about 30 minutes prior to treatment.
After your treatment, you can leave our offices immediately. This treatment is ideal for lunchtime rejuvenation because patients can come in and return to the office in under an hour, often with time to grab lunch on the way back. You’re never too busy for Botox.

What's The Difference Between Botox and Dysport?
At H/K/B Cosmetic Surgery we offer two botulinum toxin treatments: Botox and Dysport. Our skilled injectors can help you to achieve great results with either treatment.
Dysport results tend to show up a day or two sooner than Botox. It has a larger spread, which is a benefit in some treatment areas. Dysport results may not last as long and more product is needed to achieve the same appearance. Ultimately the products are the same and the makeup of the products is the only difference.
We’ll help you decide between these two similar products after a quick conversation and examination. Whether you choose Botox or Dysport, we’re confident you’ll love your new, rejuvenated appearance.
Best Botox Results: How Long Does It Take?
The effects of a botulinum toxin treatment can be seen within days and can last up to 4-6 months! Most common side effects with this treatment are: bruising, tenderness and/or swelling to the treated area. These side effects are temporary and resolve in just a few days. Occasionally, eyelid droop may be seen after injection. This is caused by migration of the solution directly after injection. It is important not to rub the area for at least 12 hours and lying down should be avoided for 3-4 hours following injection. When Botox treatments are performed at H/K/B Cosmetic Surgery, by our skilled injectors, proper recovery measures are taken, eyelid droop is very rare.
Botox results can be stunning with the right injector. Our skilled injectors are well known throughout the area for providing natural-looking rejuvenation using a variety of injectable treatment options. After treatment, patients can still make many facial expressions and will not look fake, frozen, or overdone.
What Is Dysport?
FDA-approved Dysport® facial injectable neuromodulator can help smooth lines and wrinkles on the upper face for a more youthful, refreshed appearance. Dysport targets the crow’s feet, forehead, between the brow and more. This product is a great alternative for patients who are immune to Botox and are concerned with facial aging. Ask our expert nurse injectors how Dysport can help you achieve a more youthful appearance!
For a long time, Botox was the only game in town for lines and wrinkles caused by muscle activity. Dysport wrinkle treatment is an alternative neuromodulator that spreads a bit more than Botox over the muscles that have been treated. This is an advantage in some cases, giving us more control over the final result you receive, and it is a great product for those who are immune to Botox.
Like Botox, Dysport contains dilute amounts of Clostridium botulinum and relaxes specific muscles so that they can no longer contract and cause the skin to wrinkle. It is especially effective on crow’s feet and the glabella or “11” lines between the brows, but it can also be used in other areas, such as forehead creases and “bunny lines” on the nose. To achieve a natural-looking result, the skill of your injector is paramount when receiving any injectable treatment. All of our injectors are fully trained and highly experienced with the use of Dysport. They know how it functions in the skin so that they can prescribe the correct dosage and placement of the injections to give you the youthful look you want.
What Can Dysport Treatment Do for Me?
Dysport can smooth lines and wrinkles on the face, such as frown lines between the eyebrows, crow’s feet, bunny lines on the nose, and horizontal forehead creases.
After applying a topical anesthetic, a fine needle is used to inject Dysport in the muscle that has caused the wrinkle. Dysport only takes a few minutes in our office.

How Long Does It Take to Recover From Dysport?
No recovery period is required after Dysport treatment. There may be some slight bruising, tenderness, and/or swelling at the injection sites, but this usually goes away within a few hours to a day. It is important not to rub the treatment area for the first day.
It takes a few days for the effects of Dysport to show up, so please be patient. No follow-up appointment is necessary after Dysport, but we are, of course, are always available to answer any questions you have while you heal.

Botox & Dysport FAQS
Recovery after Botox or Dysport injections is generally quick and straightforward. You may experience some mild redness, swelling, or bruising at the injection site, but these usually subside within a few hours to a few days. Most patients are able to resume their normal activities immediately after the treatment, including going back to work. However, it is recommended to avoid intense physical activity, such as exercising, excessive sun exposure, or rubbing the injected area for the first 24 hours. If you have any concerns or specific instructions from your provider, it’s essential to follow them to ensure optimal results and a smooth recovery process.
Botox treatments are safe and suitable for adults who are looking to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. However, there are certain individuals who should avoid Botox injections. Pregnant or breastfeeding women are advised against getting Botox treatments, as well as individuals with certain neuromuscular disorders. It is important to consult with a qualified healthcare provider before getting Botox injections to determine if it is the right treatment for you. Additionally, individuals with allergies to any of the ingredients in Botox should not undergo treatment. Overall, Botox is a popular cosmetic procedure, but it is important to ensure that it is done safely and in a suitable candidate.
Bruising after Botox injections is a common side effect, but there are steps you can take to minimize its occurrence and help it heal faster. To prevent bruising, avoid taking blood-thinning medications like aspirin or ibuprofen before your treatment. Applying ice to the injection sites before and after the procedure can also help reduce swelling and bruising. After the treatment, avoid vigorous exercise, alcohol consumption, and exposure to heat or sun, as these can increase the risk of bruising. If bruising does occur, you can apply arnica cream or take arnica supplements to help speed up the healing process. Remember to follow your provider’s post-care instructions carefully to ensure optimal results.
Botox® and Dysport® are both neurotoxin injectables that are used to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. The main difference between the two lies in their formulation and dosages. Botox® is made from onabotulinumtoxinA, while Dysport® is made from abobotulinumtoxinA. The units of measurement for each product are also different, with Dysport® requiring more units to achieve the same effect as Botox®. Additionally, some patients may find that Dysport® tends to spread more easily once injected, which can be beneficial for treating larger areas. Ultimately, the choice between Botox® and Dysport® depends on individual preferences and desired outcomes, so it’s important to consult with a qualified healthcare provider to determine the best option for you.
Botox® and Xeomin® are both neurotoxin injectables used for cosmetic purposes to reduce wrinkles and fine lines by temporarily paralyzing facial muscles. The main difference lies in the formulation: Botox® contains onabotulinumtoxinA, while Xeomin® contains incobotulinumtoxinA. Another distinction is that Xeomin® is considered a “naked” injectable, meaning it does not contain any additives, which may reduce the risk of developing resistance to the toxin. Both treatments are FDA-approved and have been shown to be safe and effective, but individual results may vary. It’s best to consult with a Bella Glo Medspa healthcare provider to determine which option is best for your specific needs.
Botox is commonly used to treat wrinkles and fine lines on the face, such as forehead lines, frown lines (between the eyebrows), and crow’s feet (around the eyes). It can also be used to soften neck bands and dimpling of the chin. Additionally, Botox injections are effective in reducing excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) in areas like the armpits, palms, and soles of the feet.
It’s important to consult with a Bella Glo Medspa healthcare professional to determine the best treatment plan for your specific concerns and goals. We will evaluate your anatomy, discuss your desired outcomes, and recommend the most suitable areas for Botox injections to achieve natural-looking results.
The frequency of Botox treatments can vary depending on individual factors such as metabolism, muscle activity, and desired results. In general, most people opt for Botox injections every 3-4 months to maintain the effects of smoother skin and reduced wrinkles. However, some may find that they can wait up to 6 months between treatments. It’s best to consult with your Bella Glo provider to create a personalized treatment plan based on your specific needs and goals. Regular follow-up appointments can help ensure that you achieve the desired results and maintain them over time.
Yes, your face will still be able to move after Botox treatment. Botox works by temporarily paralyzing the muscles that cause wrinkles, but it does not affect your ability to make facial expressions. You may experience some minor temporary muscle weakness in the treated areas, but this should not prevent you from smiling, frowning, or showing other expressions.
