What to Expect?
During dimple surgery, the procedure is performed from inside the mouth so there are no visible external scars. After determining the ideal placement for your dimples, a small incision is made inside the cheek. A tiny suture is then used to connect the inner cheek muscle to the skin, creating the indentation that appears when you smile. The procedure typically takes less than thirty minutes and is performed with local anesthesia, allowing patients to return home shortly afterward.
Recovery Time
Most patients take a day or two off from work after surgery. You’ll probably experience mild swelling and bruising and may have some weakness in the cheek muscle. These effects are temporary and will resolve in a couple of days. Most patients find the recovery to be very easy and rather comfortable, but if needed, we can provide pain medications. We may also provide antibiotics or an oral rinse, depending on your needs.
Your surgeon will use dissolvable stitches so there’s no need to get them removed after your dimple surgery. Patients will experience some mild swelling and bruising around the incisions, and some patients experience some weakness in the cheek muscle that might last for a couple of days, but these dimple surgery side effects are temporary. Because of the swelling, you might need to take a few days off from work while the side effects dissipate.
You might be provided with mouthwash to keep the dimple surgery’s incision as clean as possible. If needed, antibiotics can be prescribed. While dimple surgery usually doesn’t create an uncomfortable recovery, your surgeon can prescribe pain medication for you. Since it’s so minimally invasive, you will be able to eat and drink what you want after dimple surgery.
