What to Expect?
Male breast reduction can usually be performed on an outpatient basis using anesthesia or sedation at our fully accredited surgical facility on our beautiful campus, where our highly qualified nurses will pamper you. Our nurses are certified in advanced cardiac life support, which ensures the highest level of supervision, evaluation, and care in the unlikely event of an emergency. We also work with advanced anesthesia providers.
In most cases, we are able to make the incisions under the arms or along the edges of the areola (the dark area around the nipple) where the scars will be inconspicuous.
If excess glandular tissue is the primary cause of breast enlargement, the tissue will be excised. Liposuction is usually performed as well to remove fatty tissue to create a flat chest. Smartlipo is also performed to tighten the skin.
In cases where large amounts of fat or glandular tissue have been removed, the skin may not adjust well to the new, smaller breast contour. In these cases, excess skin may have to be trimmed to allow the remaining skin to firmly readjust to the new contour. This skin trim is typically done as a second procedure, as it is often not necessary for gynecomastia.
Recovery Time
The recovery time for gynecomastia is a few days to 2 weeks depending on the extent of your surgery. Strenuous activity should be avoided for about 4 weeks.
We will give you a compression garment to wear for a few weeks to reduce swelling. Expect some swelling and bruising during the recovery period, and any post-operative pain can be controlled with medication and ice packs. Of course, we will monitor your progress and answer any questions you have while you heal.
