Bill G. Kortesis, M.D., FACS, is a board-certified plastic surgeon specializing in cosmetic plastic surgery. He is a world-renowned plastic surgeon who has published numerous papers, book chapters and books on the topic of breast surgery, body contouring and facial aesthetics. Among the most nationally renowned plastic surgeons, he has been named by Newsweek as a top plastic surgeon in the field of breast, tummy tuck, and liposuction surgery. In addition, he has garnered multiple other awards in the field of plastic surgery.
The coolest part of what I do is seeing the transformation in patients. It’s why I became a plastic surgeon. I have a genuine belief that helping others reach their greatest self-esteem is the ultimate reward. In addition to being a co-founder of H/K/B Cosmetic Surgery, Dr. Kortesis mentors medical students and residents from UNC and Wake Forest, and teaches fellows from the UNC Plastic Surgery Department. He also lectures at local, regional and national American Society of Plastic Surgeons meetings.
Dr. Kortesis’ passion for giving back has taken him on mission trips to Bolivia with the Partners of the Americas to aid pediatric burn victims. Dr. Kortesis is a competitive marathoner, half-marathon tri-athlete and adventure sports enthusiast who believes in the power of overall wellness. He and his wife are also active members of the Greek Church and enjoy sharing their time with the local Greek community.

I always try to put myself in their position and understand what they`re feeling, what they`re hoping to achieve, and what this journey means to them. When you approach patient care from that perspective, you`re motivated to give everything you have to help them achieve the best possible outcome.

Helping patients visualize potential results is an important part of the consultation process. We use mirrors, before-and-after photos, 3D imaging, and platforms like TouchMD to help patients better understand what can realistically be achieved. The goal is to match each patient’s anatomy and goals with outcomes from patients who share similar features, so expectations are clear and personalized from the start.

Age is only a small part of determining whether someone is a good surgical candidate. What matters more is overall health, medical history, and the full clinical picture, because I’ve seen patients in their 20s who are not ideal candidates and patients in their 80s who are excellent candidates. Every patient is evaluated individually, which is why having a consultation is so important when exploring your options.

Patients should ask detailed questions about recovery, risks, benefits, and what to realistically expect throughout the journey. I believe consultations should take time, and in many cases multiple visits, because the best outcomes happen when patients feel fully prepared, educated, and confident moving forward.
